THE CHALLENGE<\/h4>\n
To support record ridership, AMTRAK\u2014the nation\u2019s intercity passenger rail provider and only high-speed rail operator\u2014 must maintain, refurbish, and modernize its fleet of passenger rail cars. AMTRAK\u2019s engineers had used 2D design tools, including CADKey\u00ae and AutoCAD\u00ae software, until 1999. That\u2019s when engineering management determined that 3D tools were necessary for taking the rail company\u2019s transportation offerings into the 21st century.<\/div>\n
